TC 7717 "Arcticfox" - Troop Report:

Leukaemia Foundations Worlds Greatest Shave
Informal dress code, for 501st Legion - Terror Australis Garrison - Southern Dewback Squad


Location: Gawler Place Canopy, Rundle Mall, Adelaide, South Australia, Australia, southern hemisphere, Earth, Milky Way, Imperial designation #Zd21365521-ERT/MW 9, that dot - just outside the unknown regions

Landscape/Weather: Urban inner Metro terrain, high level non-combatant sentient traffic – 23 degrees celsius, light breeze with shadowed ambient sunlight…. Near perfect!

Date / Time: Thursday 11th March 2010 – 11.30am to 2.30pm approx.

Troopers: TC7717 Arcticfox, TD7041 Phoon, TS6225 Rex6225, TD6082 Skipper, TB7845 e-I, TK3023 PreD, TB5345 Master Skywalker, SL 8124 Commander Barriss, TB1259 DaveM.

Report:

With most Troopers scouting the area as early as 9.30, and the remainder arriving in appropriate manner - a quick recon of site, and for glue to fix a wayward rangefinder by Fox, pre-Troop prep, "small room" visits and re-hydration, obligatory catch-ups and friendly banter, and the traditional public change at the 8^th level Myer car park – the Squad made their way to the mission site in impressive manner for an early arrival to the Leukaemia Foundations tent centered in the Rundle Mall Canopy space.

With instant attention on the Squad by the public, and requests for photos starting to gather a burgeoning crowd, the event started a half hour earlier than booked for – giving the Event a better than expected exposure, and didn't drop off the whole time...

-Last years event reputably had trouble with getting passerby's attention long enough to encourage spontaneous donations and Shavings, so the Foundation was impressed with the impact our attendance made so quickly, including 4 of our Brothers opening the Shaving with the removal of long hair, beards and 'stashes, encouraging onlookers to jump in too. Interest in the presence of Troopers led smoothly to not only the 501^st, with interest in what we do for Trooping requests, but quickly onto the cause of the day, and its mission to sufferers and survivors of Leukaemia and their families.

Although the Rundle Mall management regulations hindered the other actions we had originally been booked for and tasked to do - by handing out flyers and taking donations up and down the Mall, our ever industrious Scouts and Snowies managed to make a larger contribution to the cause, with the "latent presence" of several donation boxes held without active request, around all the Troopers involved in public photo requests. A lot more notes entered into these boxes than coin, from what this Fox could see through fogged lens, and needed emptying a myriad of times – all within the restricted guidelines set by silly council "Bigyins". Suffice to say the Foundation were impressed and very appreciative of the efforts made above and beyond the call of duty!
- In addition to funds raised prior by the Shavies via the website facility, we will be assigned the value of the donations collected via the boxes on the day – to be estimated next week and informed.

All Troopers conducted themselves over and above expectations, with such a huge volume for photo requests evident, and a balanced movement about the site, detracting neither from the main Event tent, nor from the other honorable groups with elements of interest on display as well. Organizers wish to make special mention to the level of professionalism shown by all, and were impressed to the point of hoping to have us again – not just for next years Shave, but with any other events they think our presence may aid in the future. Lady Vader, in a traditionally intense suit to Troop in, even in favorable conditions, was a great hit with many, and certainly gained much respect from the organizers once her secret was out – also adding her head to the cause with a spontaneous colouring in front of a good crowd.

With such a volume of humans, and with Troopers milling about the site in random ways (more random if a fox, as is his wont), we should consider ourselves fortunate that such dedicated Wranglers made themselves available - they are all well appreciated, and were as much a part of our success as the Throopers themselves. With happily helping with photo requests, and answering questions about the 501st and the Leukaemia Foundations event, they still managed to keep us safe and sound.
- a big call out to the attending Trooper partners, and always good to see Stevie and Cooge, but with the watchfullness of a mother hen, Shane Fett is now my adopted mum, and i'd hate to see his upload volume, once he gets all the photos he took up online!

It is testament to the Southern Dewback Squads enthusiasm in the 501^st that this Fox would be hard pressed to pass out an honorable mention to any one Trooper, and is glad to serve with such great people – you've set a high standard and I was hard pressed to play down their thanks and amazement, at the same time containing my own pride in my Brothers and Sister.

Summery: Complete Success, and more

Casualties: No fatalities.

Injuries: other than being suitably tired and sore, and coming away with less hair than started with, no notable injuries.

Armor Repairs: Skippers Backpack(sitting for Shave), Skywalkers Detonator tube/belt , ….Arcticfox's.. well, lets just say the whole suit, shall we? Thigh blown when sitting for shave, rangefinder departed from helm for post shave picture, Karma detached from belt, gusset snapped from pie eating habit, helm fan power source depleted to internal meltdown……… shadap!

Happy People: everyone - from the Foundation organizers and shave staff, Mike Aiston of Chanel TEN and all Troopers, to the populace of Adelaide and Clipsal 5000 through traffic in the Mall, with potential Cadets and Troop requestees – we appear to already have a Bday Troop, posted the same day, resulting from the day!

People not happy: maybe only those who didn't quite make it in when they would have loved to – we missed you all, but see you next time!
