This was just posted to me and this was my reply. Is this typical behaviour because as yet everyone I have spoken with has been extremely friendly and helpful and never once told me to keep my mouth shut and stop stirring the pot....

Quote

friendly piece of advice mate ;)
Keep stirring and ya could get banned before you get started
cheers

Um, okay. I was purely being genuine. Being a new recruit, I just want the best information from all sources. What stirring have I actually done? I need to know why asking questions about armour is stirring. I am certainly not stirring any pot. Why do you feel as though you need to warn me? Are you joking? I feel as though I am being threatened or silenced. Is this the case and if so, why? I was so excited about getting my armour and assembling it, now I am not so sure. I feel like I have to watch my back. What is going on here?

Concerned,

Richard.

Thoughts anyone? I can't believe someone has reacted this way towards me...

I find it hard to believe too mate. We do not Ban members for speaking their mind as long as they keep themselves civil. Who ever made this threat is definitely speaking out of school and does not speak on behalf of myself, my staff or the vast majority of this Garrison. If you want to let me know who sent this PM, I can have a chat with them, if not, I understand.

xxxxxxx sent this DesTROYer. I just can't understand why anyone would be like this towards me. You can check every post and reply I have ever made on this or any other forum. I am hesitant now and I know I shouldn't be because of this one person.... but is it just this one person....do you know how I could feel? You and I have spoken on this forum and you have been nothing but useful and positive and friendly and well, just what I thought I would get being new or old to this forum. If you do speak to them, it might just make matters worse..... I won't let one bad egg spoil my otherwise excellent experience from others. Should I stop asking about armour? It is obviously a very touchy and hot topic.

I think I might just speak to people here on the Gold Coast who have been nothing short of amazing.

Slightly disenchanted,
Richard.

honestly i think this should have been bought up with some1 like Troy privately rather than in an open forum. I dont agree with what was said to you at all, and majority of people on here are amazing (from all states) but matters like this are rarely openly aired that i have seen

Agreed, that type of message serves no purpose on this, or any other forum. Let the CO take care of it for you. We're with you all the way Richard.

unfortunately garth, this DOES go on and i feel starkiller has a right to bring this up openly if he feels so aggrieved.

unfortunately i received a similar pm, from up north, not threatening to ban me but to desist in pursuing a squad request "if i knew what was good for me"!!!!!!

i chose to laugh it off and just shake my head but i did however report it to the command staff, maybe not as openly as you chose to - that is your perogative

richard you will find the vast majority of us, from all parts of australia, friendly, easy going and mega cooperative with no suppression of thoughts or ideas occurring unless topics/threads become uber inflammatory

unfortunately, you hit a touchy topic on several fronts quite early on in your involvement with the 501st and tag - no one supressed your rights to ask or convey your opinion, its just te same old ground and wounds were opened yet again

in the end - the choices are yours, make them as you see fit and dont let the stupid comments or actions of some affect your participation and enjoyment of such a great organisation

cheers
amro

of course he has the right im not saying he doesnt, i just dont think making it public is going to do any1 any favours, i mean sure if he had addressed it with the CO and nothing was done about it (thats just my opinion/what i would have done).

And im sorry you also have been on the receiving end and i hope this is a rare thing as its not what the 501st is about and im sure it would be off putting to new members, and so might this thread be...

anyway starkiller, i hope it is sorted now and hasnt put you off getting into the white stuff and putting some smiles on ppls faces

It's probably best to come to an armour party and ask all the questions you want.

AP's are a great way to meet face to face in a relaxed atmosphere. Conversation flows a lot better and things are a lot less likely to be taken out of context. And if they are, it can be quick clarified and resovled. Also, there will more than likely be an example of all armour types. So you can see the pros and cons for yourself. And you can then ask more detailed questions.

I'm constantly being taken the wrong way and miss quoted here on the forums. But I find that sharing the experiance of a troop or armour makeing session clears everything up. Even if it is to agree to disagree. Sometimes that helps as well.

 I shouldn't write anymore in case someone/anyone thinks I'm having a go at 'em.

I'm sure there will be an armour party very soon. We have them all the time up here. B)

Just a little from me here.

I don't believe that a PM between members should EVER be quoted in the forums, regardless of its content, without the permission of the sender. If you ever receive a threatening PM or a message in which you feel vilified, bring it to the immediate attention of the Command Staff. I can assure you that all such complaints are treated in exactly the same manner, and are investigated fully.

I have just gotten back from a nice weekend in the country and am now catching up on forum business.

This should have been handled by PM in the first place. I asked for the name of the sender to be PM'd to me and it was posted here instead. Regardless I contacted the trooper in question and discussed the PM with him and he assured me that it was meant as a friendly warning and not a threat, I in turn informed him that he should have just stayed out of it and this is how and why he gets into disagreements with so many troopers.

Situation handled.

I don't like closing threads, but I should have in this case, (which I will now remedy) Reposting Personal messages without the Authors permission is against this forums policy, so this should serve as a warning that in future, breaches will be removed and a warning will be issued.

Summation, keep you nose out of other peoples business. What may be meant as friendly advice may not be seen as such. If you receive what you perceive as a threat via email or PM, inform the CO or XO and ask them to investigate. Do not repost that email or PM in the open forums, or you yourself maybe in breach of the forums rules (which you have agreed to by joining the forums).
