As a newbie here, this information would have been invaluable in selecting a costume to go for...

.. may I suggest a sticky :)

ID Good
- Looks snazzy; feels good on
- Very comfortable in most climates
- Easy to sit down
- Parts can be re-used in other costumes, eg: belt and boots for a TIE pilot

ID Bad
- Doesn't attract a very big WOW from people
- Often gets overlooked in requests for events
- Your face is uncovered which can make you feel a little shy when posing for photos and stuff, compared to folks who have their faces covered and can act a lot more extroverted

AT-AT Driver

The Good:
- Comfy costume (not encased in armour much)
- Limited armour componants easy to construct, making it great costume for people new to costuming (Like I was).
- Easy to souce good and reptuable armour makers.
- Soft parts, i.e. flight suit/overals, gloves, belt, easy to procure at not much expense.
- we CAN sit down
- Armoured Cavelery Detachment good source of information, even if it is from a small pool of dedicated people.
- Access to the BEST BUTT KICKING Military hardware - the might AT-AT. Just watch out for people trying to tie your shoelaces together...
- Cool looking helmet.
- Plenty of space in the hemat for fans, microphones and other mods.
- Rare breed of Trooper. As far as I know I'm the only one. I'm so lonely....
- One of only a few trooper who CAN SHOOT strieght and SUCCESSFULY complete missions.
- Cheap in comparison to other white armour.
- Get to squish Rebels.
- Very forgiving costume no matter what your gender of body shape.

The bad:
- Hose to back of Helmat limits your ability to turn your head.
- Limited vision below eye level due to the chest box. Get used to stepping on little children.
- Only the true hard core S.W fans know what you are.
- Compad can be hard to source.
- Improvements to costumes are always being made by costume manufacturers as more information comes to light.
- Armoured Cavelery Detachment only a small detactment.

and the down right impossible:
- Finding Accurate Moonboots. These are the Holy Grail of this costume. If you find then nab em. In the meantime mutluks are a good subsitute and these are reasonabley easy to find.

Overall
- One of the best costumes for people new to costuming to stary off with as it is easy to maintain and easy to move around in. You'll definately stand out as you'll be the only one (unless in Victoria).

Wow, I wonder if some people know how EXPENSIVE these cosumes are. Or what the costume is supposed to be.

He he, I still remember when I tried to steal moo's gun from his holster. :P

IS - (aka AT-ST Driver)

Pros -
Possibly one of the cheapest OT costumes going around - you can get away with it for under $300 and little to no sewing.
I can do everything the IDs can - sit, eat, pee etc etc
I can troop/wrangle at the same time (I don't see wrangling as a con)

Cons
Very few people have any idea who I am (other than observant star wars fans)

Overall -
For those wanting a good starting entry into the 501st and are somewhat scared off by plastic or large amounts of sewing, excellent trooping costume.

ill add in another tusken
PROS
- extraordinarily easy costume (as long as you can find a material with a good heaviness) i built the majority of mine from scratch when i was 17 - alot has been reworked however.
- cleaning isnt a big deal as the dirtier it gets the better it usually looks
- Really comfortable, all this costume is fabric the harder parts are your weapon your mask pieces and bandoliers
- ability to sit anywhere some of which many costumes in armour lack.
- carry cool weapons Gaffi sticks slugthrower rifles
- really intimidating no matter who you are as long as your a tusken you look powerful - as long as you act the part
- Scary
- Great for the winter months (fully wrapped 0% revealing of skin)
- If gaffi is made sturdy enough can be used as a walking stick of sorts great for long troops
- no matter how many their are they always look better in numbers
- Lightweight compared to many costumes.
- Non restrictive costume. freedom of movement is superb.
- Non restrict in terms of persons size. Big small wide thin it works for everyone.
- You dont have to look exactly like other tuskens slight variants in mask structure and a few other things can be done to set you completely apart form the rest ie pretty much all tuskens have a unique look as seen in ANH 4 distinct types and then the others in TPM and AOTC.
- Can be made to fit a family tuskens feature female and children variants (persons below the age of 18 cannot join the 501st legion but can still enjoy costuming until they are of age to join) so you can get your entire family involved.

CONS
- Mask has restrictive vision as destroyer mentioned like looking through two cardboard tubes (although this can be remedied somewhat by making thinly covered side windows in the mask which increases vision by an incredible amount) also because of vision tripping can become a abigger issue especially with stairs
- You cook in peak summer or any amount of heat or humidity
- Bandoliers are getting harder to come by (i havent been able to source a good set in over six months)
- Scary to behold (children tend to be freaked out a little when a tusken is around)
- in this day and age of terrorism one can be mistaken for a terrorist or arab background wearing costume without mask when commuting (ive had the security of liverpool station in a bit of confusion and possibly a bit of terror as i waited for a pickup the bandoliers didnt help across my chest but they had my phone and wallet in them)
- People tend to alienate you as you walk through crowd ie avoid eye contact walk around might be general disposition against costumes whenever i commute (might be PRO though as its easier to get through crowds)
- Washing costume after being covered in anything unnatural coloured for tusken (eg blue) or any sugar intensified beverage will result in the majority of the many long hours of beautiiful weathering go to waste. (has happened once also applies to getting covered in anything that will make future wearing unpleasant)

Well yeah thats about it. Cant really think of anything else.

Hope this helps... Any other questions regarding tuskens just shoot me a PM

Just got to add in the royal guard. http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr103/redpaint075/Lsw_guard.gif

Pros:
-The red makes you stand out so you get quite a lot of photos, especially if there is a vader next to you. http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr103/redpaint075/Lsw_vader.gif
-Easy to sit down in.
-Would be easy to go to the toilet in, haven't tried. ;)
-Good for playing statue in.
-Don't have to move much if you're feeling tired.
-Don't need microphones in helmet as guards don't speak.
-Except for helmet can be quite cheap, if you know someone who can sew.
-Can wear armour underneath for a better look.
-If you want to wear armour, can be any sort as will not be visible.
-Easy to put on and off, a few minutes at the most. http://i474.photobucket.com/albums/rr103/redpaint075/tr_ani.gif

Cons:
-Vision is quite limited, wide enough but no depth.
-Due to no facial features on helmet can be quite scary to children. Just ask Vaders niece.
-Robes can get very hot so frozen vests or camel packs are a worthy addition.
-Hard to get 100% right as more information keeps coming up.
-Must have fans in helmet!!!
-Hard to find a good helmet.
-Most helmets are fibreglass which gets heavy over long troops.

TX.. Shadowtrooper/Blackhole Trooper/Stealth Trooper. [btw, was almost the Tie-fighter costume for ANH!]

Pros
- Everyone want's your photo because you look unique. [..and they think you're Vader]
- Having a 'bubble head' FX kits look closer to reference material.. ie, cheaper :)
- You can carry a BFG and pouches if you choose to
- Much the same pricing as a TK
- You look sexy.
- Every scratch, mark and bump makes your gear look more Star Wars.
- You can do everything a TK/TD does and still get more attention ;)
- You're shiney!

Cons
- Hot! .. hotter than a standard TK in the sun
- Everyone thinks you're Vader -rolls eyes-
- Next to Vader, everyone thinks you're a Tie-Fighter pilot.
- You're scarier than a TK to kids
- Armour initially requires constant attention and repairs to get it right.

Costs
- All prices including postage [if app]
- Original FX kit, gloves, holster, aerators, pauldron [don't use] $596US
- Habro Blaster $30
- underarmour (x2) $30
- Boots $30
- Extra Velcro/paint etc $50
- Neckseal [scratch built] - $5
- Hasbro greebles add on $40

Drat, now I see your advice on not to use a pauldron, after I oredred and paid for a black one for my TX :P Oh well, I'll eventually get around to making a TK so I guess I can use it then.

Hah. For me-

TK pros-
-Being able to sit down in comfort, kneel, lie down on the ground, and so forth.
-The ability to enjoy a cool stream of air in all the exposed areas between armour.
-Being recognised by practically everyone that walks past (y'know, excluding people who never really watched Star Wars).
-Discovering that in my current helmet, my right lens reflects whatever's just over my shoulder, giving me rearview vision! Am planning to replicate this on my new helmet.

TK cons-
-Having hair too long to hide under my bucket, and too short to hide under my neckseal.
-Having to wear a balaclava to keep my hair out of the way.
-Choosing a suitcase that has terrible wheels on it, and now having to drag my kit everywhere.
